End of 2019, The Ty Bentli Show was syndicated across several countries. We’d steadily watched ratings increase in our strategic demos in priority markets, and were winning - in Nashville we were beating the competition in our core audience, in the UK, we were the most-listened to national country radio show. So, at the beginning of 2021, I quit.
When I was in Chicago - home of my beloved Chicago Cubs, and Bulls - I took my show to #1, got flown to New York City as a potential new host for TRL, put in an offer on the place that would make me a homeowner for the first…and the week that offer was accepted, I decided to…
Corri and I never talked on the phone during the week in the early months of our relationship - even when I moved from LA to New York, and we were long distance. We would text, and then spend hours on the phone each Saturday. We were super independent, and busy enough that it was doable to just let the anticipation and stories build up during the week. IF we did have a pressing matter, the first words on those calls would be “sorry to call but…”. I’ll admit that it…
Read MoreFor any of us that are lucky or unlucky enough to be confident and self-sufficient (but not immune to vulnerability), this song seems to represent finding an equal. If you know your worth and are maybe built with a bit of tumbleweed inside, you don't need to settle - in fact, you need to find a challenge…someone reflecting the same fierce independence that is innate inside of you. It’s not always easy to convince them to start making compromises to bring your two worlds together…but there’s happiness in that future, if you can get there. You both have to rear up at each other’s walls, and demand they come down. Half yours. Half theirs. New wall of solidarity.
This song is so weird that I’m freakin’ obsessed with it. Is it necessary to dissect like I did - is it an enigma or should I be taking more ibuprofen?
If you wanted evidence that TR’s growing up, its right there in the title. A country song about an action verb that keeps the “G” - that’s grammatically sound! Who does that? Grown ups.
Read MoreI love the honest representation of the state of the night - unlike the protests from friends “I’m not tipssssy”…this collab is excited, uninhibited and all the while, throwing a little bit of a fit! From beat 1, the percussion represents liquid courage - getting bolder as the song and the night progress..
Out of the gate, I was trying to figure out who was teamed up with Maggie to create this bop! My mind raced to Jaren Johnston (cuz TC3), then Ron Fair (cuz I’ve also been listening to Daves Highway, lately)…but turns out Maggie hit up the iconic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals. You hear Muscle Shoals in every measure of “Do It“ thanks to the production by Ben Tanner (of Alabama Shakes) and the horns, stomp, groove is addicting. I can’t turn it off, I can only turn it louder on every listen.
**If this thing is geared toward a tour in the fall, I’m getting out my trumpet and petitioning for an alternate slot in the band!
Hannah Dasher is the reason I’m back to work. I’m serious! I was going to extend my paternity leave because we honestly don’t have this house in order quite yet (plus the boys are out of school on Monday). Then I heard…
Read MoreI went back and forth on whether or not to mention that this song was written about my life. But it was, and I’m pretty proud of that. This is a song that Julia Cole wrote with the one person who knows love in the same way that I know it. This song connects for me as a formerly self-aware commitmentphobe, leading up to the day that I kissed Corri in my kitchen in LA, and began a life of adventures - the same adventures that I thought would be muted once I became part of a ‘couple.’ Surprise skydives, spur-of-the-moment flights to Chicago, cross-country road trips, archery in the morning, and sneaking off to the courthouse in New York City. The adventures continue.
Read More… This year of hibernation has started to bottle up inside me. There are three people that make up my world right now (a fourth arrives next week, my first daughter), but THE WORLD also exists…and I want to experience it! Travel, snowboard, sprinting without a map through the streets in Barcelona and Paris and New York. Places I miss. Night air. Unpredictable, irreplicable moments. I used to want to hold them selfishly to myself, then I met Corri and I wanted to share them. Now as a dad, I want to impart them and encourage my kids to find those moments of absolute freedom. Also, I still need them!
Read More Lainey Wilson is the album to be excited about, and I’ve been curious to hear what Willie Jones had put together for his debut ever since the anthem of Broadway lit up early 2020 (not the Great White Way in NYC, the second Broadway I’ve lived within walking distance of…Lower Broad in the Music City). They’ve both got a song on the list below.
