Ty Bentli Nominated for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society "Man & Woman of the Year 2021"

Cancer has touched my family several times, and arrived in our lives again just a few weeks ago.  Its scary, heartbreaking and my least favorite is the feeling of being helpless.  I have met so many other families who have experienced their own version of these emotions and circumstance.  And we now have an opportunity to make a big impact, together.

This past month I was given the honor to be a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year campaign. After losing a friend in middle school to leukemia and hearing countless stories from others fighting cancer battles, I am especially inspired by the LLS Children’s Initiative. I will help LLS continue to develop advancements that give our kids the specific treatments they need. We all can become part of the end to cancer.

I will be competing with several other Man & Woman of the Year candidates in Nashville, and together we will each put our best fundraising foot forward in honor of two courageous children, Grayson and Ava Paige, our Boy & Girl of the Year.  I’ve known Ava for several years.  I’ve seen her fight, and simultaneously share her music to make the world brighter even from a hospital bed.  I honestly feel an unbelievable and intimidating responsibility to raise as much awareness and funding as possible in honor of Ava, Grayson, and the people who believe in my ability to do this.

While childhood leukemia has the highest cure rate of any blood cancer, it is also still the number-one disease killer among children under the age of 20. I'm a dad. This needs to change. I know that as we come together and partner with LLS we will find a cure. Beating cancer is in our blood!
